Crematorium receives top marks during inspection

The site was inspected by the Federation of Burial and Cremation Authorities (FBCA) at the start of July. 

It involved looking at eight separate key areas of service delivery, including operational procedures, statutory and regulatory compliance, the quality of service provided and the standard of facilities.

Over 145 points of interest were scrutinised during the process.

The facility was found to be operating in accordance with the 3 key areas of compliance which are:

• The Cremation Regulations 2008, including the most recent amendment in 2024 relating to statutory documentation
• The Defra Process Guidance notes 5/2(25), relating to cremation
• The Code of Cremation Practice, relating to all aspects of the service

Inspectors also found the overall level of service provision to be outstanding, with several of the key areas scoring 100 per cent compliance.

Councillor Yvonne Forsey, cabinet member for climate change, waste and recycling at Newport City Council, said:

Receiving top marks across several areas and securing full compliance with all statutory and regulatory requirements is a testament to the professionalism, dedication and compassion of the entire team.

The crematorium provides an essential service for families at some of the most difficult moments in their lives, and it is reassuring to know that those services are being delivered to the very highest standards.’’

As a result, the site has received a certificate of compliance, which recognises our ongoing commitment to maintaining high standards. 

Our next inspection will be in three years time.
